Football commentary on Brazil vs Argentina: South American classic

Brazil hopes to overcome difficulties from the Super Classic match of South American football, while Argentina is determined to show its position as the world champion.

The Brazilian team has not yet found the correct direction after the defeat in the 2022 World Cup, with more losses than victories.

After returning from Qatar, along with parting ways with coach Tite, Brazil lost 50% of the 8 matches played, won 3 and drew 1.

Ramon Menezes acted as a stuntman in 3 matches and currently the “Canarinha” head coach position is given to Fernando Diniz, who signed a temporary one-year contract.

Between Menezes and Diniz, in less than 11 months, 19 new players have debuted for Brazil.

This further shows the current situation of Brazilian football in recent years: lack of quality stars, or some players are not suitable for the team despite being outstanding at clubs.

Fernando Diniz just made history when he helped Fluminense win the Copa Libertadores for the first time. However, his impression on “Canarinha” is still very faint.

Brazil did not win in 3 consecutive 2026 World Cup qualifying matches, with the last 2 defeats. Not counting friendlies, this is the worst series of results since the 2001 summer crisis.

Diniz loves the 4-2-4 attacking formation, but so far his way of building the game has left Brazil unbalanced. They have no real leader in the middle.

Vinicius’ injury makes things even more difficult for Brazil. Diniz wants to borrow the South American Super Classic battle with Argentina to overcome difficulties, but things will not be easy at all.

Meanwhile, the first loss since winning the 2022 World Cup did not affect Argentina’s spirit.

Argentina mainly plays against weak teams, so many limitations cannot be overcome. Marcelo Bielsa’s defeat to Uruguay last week helped Lionel Scaloni see more clearly the existing problems, especially the defense.

The past few days have been an adjustment on the practice field. Scaloni expects these improvements to be effective on the field in Rio de Janeiro.

In the summer of 2021, when the ball rolled back after Covid-19, Argentina defeated Brazil right at the football mecca of the Maracana and won the Copa America, ending a 28-year drought.

That victory was a turning point that helped Argentina turn around, shake off the psychological burden and reach the peak of glory in Qatar at the end of last year.

Returning to the legendary Maracana, Lionel Messi and his teammates want to continue writing their own story, pushing Brazil into darkness.
