Selena Gomez and her Wizards of Waverly Place costars are back together again!
On Friday, two of the 31-year-old Rare Beauty founder’s former cast mates shared a joint Instagram photo of the TV family spending time with one another — and everything appears to be exactly as it seems!
“The Russos ❤️🪄coming back #wizardsofwaverlyplace @wizardspod,” the upload posted by David Henrie and David DeLuise read.
The Disney Channel series ran from 2007 to 2012 and followed a family of wizards with Gomez starring as teen Alex Russo, alongside brothers Justin Russo (Henrie, 34) and Max Russo (Jake T. Austin). DeLuise, 52, was the clan’s patriarch, while Maria Canals-Barrera was cast as the mortal wife and mother, Theresa Russo.
All but Austin, 29, appeared in the photo.
In the television series, which lasted for four seasons and launched two spin-off TV movies, the siblings had to learn how to use their magical powers or risk losing them.
On Jan. 18, Deadline announced that a sequel was headed to Disney Channel, and will be co-produced by original stars Gomez and Henrie. New faces appearing in the franchise include Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos. The “Love You Like A Love Song” singer will guest star on the show.
Henrie will be a series regular.
The same day that Deadline shared the news, the Disney Channel’s official Instagram account posted a close-up photo of a Wizards pilot script as a toy wand lay over it.
“📍Waverly Place,” was the caption.
“Get ready for the Russo’s to become apart of your family once again, but we’ve grown! 2024, the year 🪄 comes back ;),” Henrie added in the comment section.
According to an official synopsis, the sequel will chronicle the aftermath of “a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons. But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.”
Earlier this week, Henrie shared a photo of himself and Gomez posing with the new cast members on his Instagram Story.
“Let’s make some 🪄 [magic],” he captioned the photo.
And ahead of the new year, Gomez also showed some love to a couple of other cast mates.
“Trio” she captioned an Instagram carousel of herself with her Only Murders in the Building costars Martin Short and Steve Martin. The comedic murder-mystery series, which is in its third season on Hulu, earned Gomez her first-ever Emmy nominations.
Speaking to TheWrap in June, the “Single Soon” songstress reflected on lessons learned from her chosen family.
“They’ve helped sharpen my skills,” she said of Martin, 78, and Short, 73. “I hope to be as funny as they are one day. They are just really gifted at creating a situation out of nothing and making people laugh and I admire that deeply.”
