Madonna has just ended her global Celebration Tour with a free show at Copacabana beach, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. According to estimates from both international and Brazilian media, between 1.6 million and 3 million spectators flocked to the beach to watch one of the concerts with the largest audience in history.
Many spectators stayed there for hours or even days to get a good spot, while wealthier fans moored on dozens of private yachts near the beach. Apartments and hotels on the beach also have the opportunity to “make money” when tourists flock to the area, stretching for kilometers. Madonna emotionally wrote on her personal page: “This really happened, thank you Rio. No words can describe this feeling, to everyone who was present!’.
The crowd of more than 1.6 million spectators is such a sight!
Copacabana Beach is extremely famous as the venue for huge “super concerts” with an audience of millions. Rod Stewart’s concert during New Year’s Eve 1994, which holds the record for the concert with the largest audience of all time, was also held at Copacabana beach with 4.2 million attendees. When the legendary band The Rolling Stones performed at Copacabana beach in 2006, they also attracted more than 1.5 million spectators.
Madonna’s historic concert also “overtook” The Rolling Stones, and also became the concert by a female artist with the largest number of attendees ever. Madonna performed the entire set list from The Celebration Tour, which lasted more than 2 hours. The concert stage is also kept the same design as the tour, but is constructed to be twice as large as normal to meet the grand scale of the show.
Madonna performed in Rio recently in front of more than 1.6 million spectators.
“Rio, here we are, in the most beautiful place in the world, with the ocean, the mountains and Jesus,” Madonna told the crowd of more than 1.6 million people. At the age of 70, Madonna is still flexible and energetic when performing, affirming her unshakable throne as “Queen of Pop”.
More than 3,000 police were deployed around the concert area. Authorities used a crowd management strategy similar to how they handled the city’s famous New Year’s Eve celebrations. Even though there were more than 1.6 million spectators, there were hardly any accidents or unfortunate incidents recorded.
The overwhelming crowd of more than 1.6 million spectators attended Madonna’s concert.
Rio’s state and city governments said they spent nearly $4 million on concert preparations, with the rest funded by private sponsors. Authorities estimate that the concert has greatly boosted the number of tourists coming to the city, which is estimated to bring in hundreds of millions of dollars to Rio’s economy.
