The Kouros of Samos, Greece
In September 1980, a German archaeological team uncovered a monumental marble statue during a routine excavation on the Sacred Way in Heraion of Samos. This statue, known as Kouros of Samos, a prime example of ancient Greek sculpture from 6th Century BC.
Standing at an impressive 5.25m tall, the body of the kouros was remarkably intact, though its head was missing. Four years later, in 1984, the head was discovered and reattached, allowing the statue to be displayed in its full glory at the Samos Archaeological Museum.
