The pop star, 25, and her best friend, 29, sat down with Savannah Guthrie to talk about how Francia donated her kidney to save Selena’s life in September.
The emotional revelation left both actresses in tears as they described the painful process according to sources for The Blast.
Savannah asked the women to detail the surgery step by step noted the insider.
The interview took place in Burbank as Selena stopped by the production of Grown-ish where Francia was shooting her new sitcom.
The news of Selena’s life-saving operation – due to complications from Lupus – broke when the Disney Channel alum took to social media post surgery.
In September, Selena shared a photo of her and ‘beautiful friend’ holding hands in their hospital beds.
In an accompanying message, the Come And Get It hitmaker revealed she had undergone a secret transplant after suffering kidney failure back in May.
Francia stepped in to help after Selena was put on the transplant list – and was found to be a match for her friend.
Selena said in a heartwarming statement at the time: ‘I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of.
‘So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.
The two have long been friends, after first meeting nine years ago at a Disney and ABC Family charity event at the Children’s Hospital.
Selena was just 15 at the time, but already a star, and the two ‘just clicked’.
They call one another ‘sister’ and Francia was at Selena’s side through her highly-publicized breakup with Justin Bieber, 23, in 2015.
A successful former model, Francia made her acting debut in 2005 in an episode of action show Over There – and made her film debut in the 2006 film Bring It On: All or Nothing.
A real life cheerleader at Bishop Alemany High School, she played Leti in the comedy sequel alongside Hayden Panettiere and Solange Knowles.
She has also appeared on the US show The Secret Life of the American Teenager – and in 2017 had a role in the critically acclaimed Netflix show, Dear White People.
‘And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me.
‘I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made.’
