At the age of 36, it’s no surprise that Messi is reaching the end of his “unmatched” career. Accordingly, Messi has now confirmed the club where he will retire.
In a latest interview with ESPN Argentina, Messi said that Inter Miami will be his last club.
The owner of 8 Ballon d’Or said: “Inter Miami will be my last club, Yes. From today, it will be my last. I love playing football, I enjoy everything more because I am aware that time is becoming less and less.”
This may come as a surprise as many expected Messi to finish his career with Argentinian team Newell’s Old Boys, the club where he began his career.
Back in 2023, El Nacional reported that Messi would look to rejoin Newell’s Old Boys when his contract with Inter Miami expires in 2025. Speaking in March, Messi announced that he would take a temporary leave of absence. Stop your career when you feel you can no longer help your teammates:
“Atomic Flea” said on MBC’s Big Time Podcast, according to ESPN: “I understand the moment I can’t play, don’t enjoy football, that I don’t help my teammates then I will stop.”
Over the years, Messi has broken a series of records and continues to establish himself as one of the best football players of all time.
After winning the 2022 World Cup with Argentina in Qatar, many fans labeled Messi the undisputed GOAT (greatest of all time) of football.
Last summer, the player born in 1987 left Paris Saint Germain to move to MLS team – Inter Miami. Since then, he has scored 25 goals in 29 games and has seen former teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba join the club.
