Newcastle prepare to travel to Old Trafford knowing that a point will secure them a top-seven spot and see them finish above Man United for the first time in Premier League history.
And the man in charge was Robert Jones , who has worked with the Magpies four times this season, including the 3-0 League Cup win at Old Trafford in November and the 1-0 win at St James ‘ Park 1 month later.
His last match with Newcastle was their 4-3 win over West Ham United, where Jones called in two penalties which Alexander Isak converted. He also sent off Anthony Gordon late in the game, a decision that upset the Magpies star.
Meanwhile, Jones has also refereed four times for Man United this season. In addition to the two losses to Newcastle, Jones also witnessed MU’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa and the FA Cup semi-final penalty shootout victory over Championship team Coventry City.
Jones will be supported by Ian Hussin and Lee Betts, while Jarred Gillett and Eddie Smart are in charge of VAR. Keith Stroud was the fourth referee.
