In the ruins of Hattusa, once capital city of the Hittite kingdom, located near Boğazkale in Turkey, you will find a beautiful green stone of serpentinite or nephrite (jade). No one knows what this stone was used for but it possibly had some religious significance, since it is located within a storeroom in a temple complex. It is often referred to as the “wish stone” by locals. According to archeologist Andreas Schachner:
“The green stone is very different from other stones in this archaeological site and that is why it is attracting such an attention.”
This type of stone is found in the area, but what makes this particular stone interesting is its location in Hattusa.
