Kylian Mbappe’s mother and agent Fayza Lamari answered queries about her son’s next club amid rumors of him moving to Real Madrid this summer. Speaking to the press while arriving at the Gigi restaurant for Mbappe’s farewell with the staff of Paris St-Germain (PSG), Lamari said the media already knows Kylian’s next destination.
“Where Kylian is going next season?” asked a reporter.
“I think you already know, right? [laughs]” Lamari said.
It is understood that Kylian Mbappe organized a party for the PSG staff at the renowned restaurant Gigi in Paris, France, ahead of his last game for the club this Saturday (May 25). PSG will face Lyon in the French Cup final.
The player is set to join Real Madrid, as per multiple reports. Fayza Lamari also confirmed that Mbappe’s brother Ethan Mbappe will also be leaving PSG this summer.
In his 307 appearances for PSG, Kylian has scored 256 goals and provided 108 assists. He has won six Ligue 1 titles, three Coupe de Frances, and led the club to its first Champions League final. Mbappe is set to leave the club as its all-time top goalscorer.
Kylian Mbappe could wear the No. 10 jersey at Real Madrid
According to a report by French newspaper Le Parisien, Kylian Mbappe could be wearing the iconic No. 10 jersey at Real Madrid, currently worn by Croatian midfielder Luka Modric. It will depend on Modric’s decision about his future at the club.
As of now, Mbappe is seen in the No. 7 jersey at PSG, but it is unlikely for him to take up the same jersey at Los Blancos as Vinicius Jr. already wears the number. In the France national team, Mbappe wears the No. 10 jersey and it could be possible for him to inherit the number from Modric upon his transfer to Spain.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Modric wants to continue with the Los Blancos this season and has rejected major offers to stay at the club. One more meeting is to be held to decide his future.
If Modric stays at the club, he is likely to take up a secondary role as he has not been playing for longer minutes this season. Therefore, it is up to the player and the club to decide whether Kylian Mbappe will become Los Blancos’s new number 10.
As per AS, in the event of Mbappe not wearing the No. 10 shirt, he could take up the iconic No. 9, last worn by Karim Benzema before his departure in the summer of 2023. Mbappe is likely to play in the centre-forward position at Real Madrid, who are typically assigned No 9.
It remains to be seen when Madrid announce Kylian Mbappe as their new signing. Reports suggest the announcement could be made after the Euro 2024 or after Los Blancos plays Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final on Saturday (June 1) at Wembley.
