The work done by artist Martin Ron was inaugurated at the end of December at intersection 9 of Julio and Belgrano avenues, San Cristobal district in Buenos Aires. Martin Ron is the author of more than 300 murals, recognized as a leading artist in Argentina of street paintings.
The mural recreates the image of Messi celebrating a goal in the match against Mexico in the 2022 World Cup group stage. Argentina’s number 10 wears a blue captain’s armband, raising his fist in excitement.
The mural is 35 meters high, located on the side of a high-rise building, attracting special attention from surrounding people. Martin Ron’s impressive work will compete with 50 other street paintings from around the world for the “Best Mural of the Year” award.
The contest is organized by the Street Art Cities platform with votes from viewers globally. What’s interesting is that Messi’s mural is right next to Diego Maradona’s mural, also done by Martin Ron. Even Maradona’s portrait is larger than Messi’s, with a height of 45 meters and a width of 40 meters, located right next to Luis Street.
It can be said that Messi is an endless source of inspiration for artists. Recently at the Balneario 12 resort, located in the city of Mar del Plata, there was also a Messi-themed mural. Fans are also allowed to write messages on the paintings to send to Messi.
