NBA veteran Goran Dragic has announced his plans to retire from basketball in 2024.
The Slovenian legend spent 15 seasons in the league, chalking up 946 games. During that time he played for multiple teams, including the Suns, Heat and Rockets.
Dragic, who was voted an NBA All-Star in 2018, also won the most improved player award in 2014.
The announcement of his plans to call it quits came from Slovenian website SiOL.ne.
It’s claimed he’s planning to hold a final game in Slovenian capital Ljubljana in August with a number of former and current NBA players – including compatriot Luka Doncic – in attendance.
Known as ‘The Dragon’, Dragic was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft but sent him on to the Suns on the same night.
It came after he played for four seasons in his homeland and was named Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in Slovenia.
Dragic spent last season with the Milwaukee Bucks. He put up his best statistics in 2013-14, averaging 20.3 points and 5.9 assists with the Suns.
After that season he was traded to the Heat and spent seven seasons in Miami, playing a crucial role after LeBron James left.
He put up an average of 19.1 points and 4.4 assists per game during the Heat’s run to the Covid-affected NBA finals in 2020.
