Following Dwight Howard to play in Asia, four-time NBA All-Star striker DeMarcus Cousins signed a contract with Taiwan Beer Leopards Club, a team in the professional T1 League of Chinese Taipei.
This information was shared on the homepage of Taiwan Beer Leopards (formerly Taoyuan Leopards), confirming that the former All-Star striker will play for the team in January.
Sharing more details about this contract, reputable journalist Adrian Wojnarowski updated that DeMarcus Cousins only signed a 10-day contract with Leopards. The 33-year-old striker will play 4 matches for Taiwan Beer Club in the T1 League. Whether he stays to play longer or not has not been agreed upon by the team.
“ I am very excited and look forward to coming to play for you. It is known that the team is playing well and has many successful fans. I’m extremely excited and will see everyone in January “, Cousins said through his representative.
Taiwan Beer Leopards is the club where Dwight Howard played in the 2022-23 season, averaging 23.2 points, 16.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 20 matches.
This year, Howard (38 years old) is no longer attached to the Leopards. Instead, he returned to the US to temporarily rest, aiming to re-appear in the NBA or play in Australia and Europe.
Unlike Dwight, DeMarcus Cousins is younger and will likely leave a stronger mark. However, Cousins only played 4 matches for Taiwan Beer Leopards, so we cannot rule out the possibility that this is a commercial contract to create an image for the club.
DeMarcus Cousins was one of the best centers in the NBA at his peak, especially the season he paired with Anthony Davis in New Orleans.
But a series of injuries, including torn Achilles tendons and torn knee ligaments, have caused “Boogie” Cousins’ career to plummet in the past 6 years.
On average for his entire NBA career, he scored 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game over 11 seasons, playing for 7 different clubs. The last time he played was in the 2021-22 season for the Denver Nuggets.
After no longer having a place in the American Professional Basketball League, “Boogie” moved to play in Puerto Rico for the Guaynabo Mets Club, the team he is still with as of mid-2023.
