Queen Nefertiti was famous in ancient Egypt not only for her beautiful beauty but also for causing great upheavals in society when she and her husband, pharaoh Amenhotep IV, implemented a religious revolution.
Important decision
According to historical records, Egyptian Queen Nefertiti (1370-1330 BC) was the first wife of pharaoh Akhenaten (also known as Amenhotep IV) – who ruled Egypt in the 14th century BC.
During her reign, Queen Nefertiti and her husband – pharaoh Amenhotep IV – carried out a shocking religious revolution by making the Sun god the supreme deity in the polytheistic beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. .
Accordingly, Queen Nefertiti and her husband converted Egyptian religion from polytheism to worshiping only one god. Queen Nefertiti played an important role in building the Aten cult along with pharaoh Amenhotep IV.
To show their determination to build a new sect, Queen Nefertiti and her husband changed their name. Specifically, Pharaoh Amenhotep IV changed his name to Akhenaten (or also known as Akenhate), Queen Nefertiti also changed her name to Neferneferuaten-Nefertiti (meaning beauty of the Aten sect).
Even Queen Nefertiti is considered to be more influential than Pharaoh Akhenaten when she holds ultimate power, equal to her husband. This is an extremely rare case in Egyptian dynasties when the queen has such great power.
Lifetime achievement
Some reliefs portraying Queen Nefertiti show this Egyptian queen wearing a pharaoh’s crown, showing her importance.
Although after Queen Nefertiti died, later Egyptian pharaohs tried to erase all traces of this powerful queen, including restoring polytheism and demolishing many religious buildings worshiping her. This queen… but up to now, this queen’s lifetime achievements are still considered the most important.
