Did Araujo’s red card against PSG justify it?

Former La Liga referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez said that Ronald Araújo did not really commit a clear foul on Bradley Barcola in the Champions League quarter-final second leg.

“This is the ball where Araujo put his arm around Barcola’s shoulder during the dispute. The PSG player seemed to let himself fall. For me, this is not a foul situation,” Mr. Eduardo Gonzalez told AS.

Fair expulsion? Araújo went to the 'street' and insinuated that there was 'robbery' against

As for referee Istvan Kovacs’ decision to give Araujo a red card, Mr. Eduardo Gonzalez said: “The right decision. If the referee thinks Araujo committed a foul in that situation, then the Barca player receiving a red card is unquestionable.”

At Barca’s Olímpic Lluís Companys Stadium in the early morning of April 17 (Hanoi time), the red card Araujo received in the 29th minute caused the host to collapse. This is the ball where the Uruguayan midfielder fouled Barcola.

Araujo believes he has a valid shoulder tackle. Referee Kovacs did not consult VAR, thereby giving the Barca defender a direct red card.

AS commented that Araujo received a red card because he was the last player standing in Barca’s defense, while Barcola had the ball moving towards Ter Stegen’s goal. The Uruguayan midfielder prevented the opponent’s opportunity to score a goal.

As for the situation where Joao Cancelo fouled Ousmane Dembele in the second half, leading to a penalty for PSG, Mr. Eduardo Gonzalez said that referee Istvan Kovacs made the correct decision.

Not long after this situation, referee Kovacs refused to give Barca a penalty when İlkay Gündoğan fell in the restricted area. Vitinha is said to have had an impact, blocking the German player. However, Mr. Eduardo Gonzalez assessed that referee Kovacs made the correct decision.
