On Christmas Eve, almost every player in Europe saves moments with his family next to the Christmas tree and sends wishes to fans. Mohamed Salah is no exception. This Christmas, the Liverpool star posted a black and white photo of a sparkling pine tree, along with a call to stop the war in the Gaza Strip.
Salah and the image of the Christmas tree caused controversy |
However, Salah’s actions faced heavy criticism. Simply because Salah is a Muslim, and Christmas is a holiday for Christians.
“It’s confusing Salah, you’re a Muslim, not a Christian. Our Christmas starts in April,” a fan wrote. “Disappointing, Salah is from the Muslim world”, another fan expressed.
However, there are still people who support Salah and think that this is a very normal cultural interaction in an equal and civilized world. Furthermore, Salah’s actions carry a message of peace, calling for the abandonment of war.
