According to The Athletic , Ronaldo had problems with coach Ten Hag’s instructions during training. The former Ajax coach wants CR7 to become a strong pressing spearhead at the top.
He wanted Ronaldo to chase and get the ball from the opponent’s defender. After that, Ronaldo was asked to approach the goalkeeper before quickly returning to his original position.
“Ronaldo made little effort to follow Ten Hag’s instructions on the training field,” The Athletic wrote.
Ronaldo is said to like to kick himself as he pleases. He said that Ten Hag’s request “is not the best way to take advantage of his abilities or help MU win matches”.
Not only Ronaldo, but also Raphael Varane and Casemiro also had problems with Ten Hag’s coaching style. Both questioned why Ten Hag paid so much attention to keeping position and not freedom of movement like at Real Madrid.
Returning to Ronaldo, he voluntarily left the bench and left Old Trafford in the final minutes of MU’s 2-0 win over Tottenham in round 12 of the 2022/23 Premier League season. That was when the couple’s relationship became strained.
