The colorful little Minivet: a melodic bird from the forests of South and Southeast Asia
Pericrocotus miniatus, also known as Small Minivet, is a small passerine bird found in the forests and woodlands of South and Southeast Asia, including India, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia.
The Small Minivet has distinctive, colorful plumage: males have bright orange-red upperparts and black wings, while females have gray upperparts and yellow underparts. Both sexes have a black mask and a thick black bill.
The Little Minivet is known for its melodious and sweet song, which is a series of clear, high notes. It feeds mainly on insects and small invertebrates.
Although the Little Minivet is not considered threatened, its population is declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation. Its conservation status is currently listed as “Least Concern” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
