After stumbling upon a snap of her longtime best friend, 34, alongside Blake Lively, Lana Del Rey, Ice Spice and Keleigh Teller, having a blast at the 2024 Super Bowl last weekend, the 31-year-old former Disney Channel star left a sad emoji under a post shared by a fan account, that goes by the username @swiftutation.
In response to the picture, the Rare Beauty founder dropped a slightly frowning emoji with a single tear falling from one of its eyes and red heart.
While it is unclear why Gomez did not join the group as they cheered on Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce as his team faced off against the San Francisco 49ers, she made her feelings of exclusion known to the world on Wednesday.
Considering the two-time Grammy nominee and pop star have been close since first meeting in 2008, on a double date with Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas, Gomez was most likely invited, but had a schedule conflict or plans with Benny Blanco.
Still a number of Selenators replied under her comment to express their sadness that she wasn’t standing by Swift’s side in the photo.
‘We love you Selena, don’t be sad!’ one wrote. ‘Maybe in the next Super Bowl.’
Another commented: ‘She’s sad because she’s not there. I feel you girl lol but they genuinely are her friends too.’
Others called out Gomez’s choice of the crying emoji as they called it a ‘wild’ and ‘random’ choice.
Still a few found the comment relatable as they admitted they wished to be ‘there too.’
This comes after the Only Murders in the Building actress reportedly turned down a few of Swift’s ‘invitations to a few Chiefs games’ earlier in the season.
In late October, Page Six reported that Gomez was worried that Swift and her new boyfriend were ‘moving too fast.’
‘Selena thinks Taylor going to games and galavanting through New York immediately after just meeting Travis is something that is very unlike her,’ the source alleged. ‘Historically, Taylor’s always been super private about everything, and now with this [relationship], she’s so open about it that it’s just very odd for Selena.’
The insider, however, noted that the duo were ‘not in a fight’ over Gomez’s opinion, and they’ve been seen out together on a number of occasions in the past few months.
‘It didn’t come from a malicious place, and it’s not that she doesn’t like them together. She’s just concerned about the way it’s being navigated,’ the source added.
Additionally, the singer was said to have been trying to avoid getting fragged into the Tayvis ‘media frenzy.’
In stark contrast to Page Six’s report, a source told Entertainment Tonight that Gomez loves the couple together and thinks they are the ‘real deal.’
‘She is a big supporter of her and Travis,’ the insider noted, before adding that she likes how ‘how respectful Travis is of Taylor and that he treats her like a queen.’
The source continued: ‘So far Travis has proven to be caring, honest, and thoughtful. He’s a good listener and communicator, takes her feelings into consideration, puts his family first, and also respects her passion for what she does.’
Last month, Gomez and Swift made headlines after they were seemingly caught gossiping at the Golden Globes.
In November, Gomez joined Swift for a girls’ night in New York City with Sophie Turner, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne and Brittany Mahomes.
For Swift’s birthday on December 13, Gomez shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to her pal, in which she called the performer a ‘goddess.’
