Bell was acutely aware of his recent run of bad luck in wagers, took to social media, expressing his belief that placing a bet that Irving‘s stellar scoring streak would continue, would actually lead to it coming to an end.
Whilst it may have been a rather tongue in cheek comment, it actually ended up turning into reality as Bell placed a bet on the Dallas Mavericks when they faced the Los Angeles Lakers.
True to Bell‘s premonition, the jinx played out as expected on Wednesday when the Dallas Mavericks, with Irving in their ranks, faced off against the Lakers.
Irving had been on an impressive five-game stretch, averaging 37.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game. However, on this fateful night, Irving’s performance took a nosedive, scoring only 12 points, with six assists and five rebounds on a 4-for-16 shooting performance in 32 minutes.
Bell, acknowledging his inadvertent hex on Irving’s game, was quick to discuss the issue on social media.
“Lol told you… & my bad Kyrie, I just had to make my point. It wasn’t yo fault,” Bell posted on Twitter.
Irving, who had previously contemplated joining the Lakers, as reported by ESPN, attended multiple Lakers home playoff games last season, expressing his desire to reunite with LeBron James.
The reasons behind Irving‘s lackluster night on the court remained uncertain, whether it was the pressure of playing in Los Angeles again or simply an unfortunate jinx cast by the ex-Jets running back, Bell.
Regardless, the Lakers emerged triumphant in a convincing fashion, adding another layer of intrigue to the intersection of sports and superstition.
