Both – both 19 years old – were detained overnight and underwent police questioning. One person was investigated for rape, the other was accused of assaulting and assisting his teammates to commit rape right in the club’s stadium.
“After being questioned, these two players paid enough bail money to be released on bail. They will wait for the results of the investigation from the police,” Daily Mail revealed.
The incident is said to have occurred on April 19. After being sexually assaulted by two players, the victim immediately went to the police station to file a complaint.
The managing club of the two arrested players (identities kept confidential) responded to Daily Mail: “Because everything is still in the process of being clarified. We decline to make any comments at this time.”
In the past few years, many young Premier League stars have been caught up in prison for assault and rape, including Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood, Man City’s Benjamin Mendy, and Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson. Further, Adam Johnson also destroyed his career when he was involved in the rape of an underage girl.
Players involved in rape have almost no chance of rebuilding their careers in the Premier League. Greenwood used to be the mainstay of Man Utd’s attack but was forced to move to La Liga to play for Getafe.
The “Red Devils” leadership could not find a way to help this player return to the first team, because Greenwood was opposed by members of the Man Utd women’s team.
